AQUEOUS COATING is more environmentally friendly than varnish or UV coating because it's water based. It is applied to the sheet by an additional coating tower on the press. It seals the ink which dries almost instantly and creates an additional gloss that protects the sheet. It has better "hold-out" than varnish because it doesn't seep into the paper. Aqueous coating doesn't crack or scuff easily. This coating does, however, cost more than varnish but we think it is worth giving you the highest quality product as our standard. (FREE Aqueous on 1,000 or more)

OVERALL GLOSS UV COATING is standard on all our 14 and 16 point card stock. UV coating is a clear liquid spread over the paper like ink and then cured instantly with ultraviolet light. UV coating gives more protection and sheen than either aqueous coating or varnish. Since it is cured with light and not heat, no solvents enter the atmosphere so it is environmentally friendly.

MATTE / DULL COATING is available on all jobs printed on 14 or 16 point card stock. Matte coating creates a flat smooth look that reflects less light than glossy coatings. It removes the glare and is very effective over type. Use matte coating for a more subtle,quite effect.

SPOT UV COATING is a great option for giving your printed piece the WOW FACTOR! Spot UV highlights and draws attention to a selected area by creating a visual stimulus to draw the eye. It enhances the value and give the impression of importance and quality to the finished piece.

SILVER (PMS 877) or COLORED METALLICS (available 5/0, 5/1,
5/4, 5/5) can be used on all cards. It creates a very unique and exciting look to distinguish you from your competition.Can be used in type, background or a boarder. It's sure to get your card noticed.

HALF FOLD
A paper is folded exactly in half. Example: 8.5 x 11 folded to 5.5 x 8.5

TRI-FOLD

A fold where a three panel piece has both side sections folded inward, one on top of the other. Each section is approximately 1/3 the length of the piece. Also known as a C-fold or letterfold.

Z-FOLD
A paper fold represeted by back and forth folds into three panels.

ROLL FOLD / ACCORDIAN
A type of fold where the piece is folded inward at one end and then foled inward again one or more times. It is as if you are rolling the piece up.

GATEFOLD

When both sides of an oversize page fold into the gutter in overlapping layers.

FRENCH FOLD

A sheet which has been printed on one side only and then folded twice in right angles to form a foour page uncut section.

DOUBLE PARALLEL FOLD

A type of fold where the piece is folded in half and then folded in half again. The folds are parallel to each other. Also known as a quarter fold.

WHAT IS SHORT RUN PRINTING?

Now you can print lower quantities on a digital press on same paper used for offset printing. Digital short run print quality is as good as offset and much cheaper for smaller quantities. There is very little set up time, paper waste and printing plates are not needed. Because of this, Short run digital printing is eco-friendly and better for the environment.

Short runs are great for test marketing or sample mailing. If you only need 100, 250 or 500 business cards or postcards, short run printing is the answer. These are not copy machine copies, nor are they color copies. The quality of short run printing is as good as it gets. You no longer have to settle for the inferior quality to get your message out.

FAQ and FILE REQUIREMENTS

Be sure to read our FAQ and FILE REQUIREMENTS to avoid common production problems. Remember that you are responsible for supplying correct printing files. No one can print a great job using bad files. Use print industry standard software programs such as Photoshop, In Design, Illustrator, and Quark Express- if possible. We do our best to help whenever possible to correct files but we can't help you make last minute changes if you use an obscure or free online design program. Make sure all your files are 300 dpi and cymk.
The printing process uses CYMK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) to make all the possible colors that can be printed. RGB files must be converted to cymk and this conversion can change color. It's best to start out using CYMK so you can actually see the color you are using. If you are not sure about what you are doing, give us a call.
