WHAT IS A LENTICULAR CARD ?

A Lenticular product produces visual images that are more appealing due to their surprising motion, animation, depth and 3D effects. We take your images and create a swapping effect, each image vanishing and then reappearing from one to another as you move it up and down. There is a backing that can also be printed in normal 4 color process. Total thickness with both plastic Lenticular viewer and backing is 21pt. Only the front side will have the Lenticular effect.

Lenticular cards are guaranteed attention grabbers. People will look at them and pay attention to the effect created over and over. Additionally they'll show the card around and usually keep it handy to show others. Lenticular cards come in business card size or 4 x 6 postcard size. Lenticular images are digital files that have been specially prepared and then printed onto a lens material. This material is a special plastic made up of lenticules, hence the name lenticular printing. The image, viewed through the lenticules, appears to change or move or morph as it is turned creating dramatic animation or depth.

HOW ARE LENTICULAR CARDS CREATED?

Lenticular images combine digitally interlaced printed or photographic image with rows of optical grade lenses. These interlaced images, printed directly to the back of the lens, focus light on different strips of the surface and magnifies whatever image is there. Viewing the image from different angles by moving it creates the desired illusion. Lenticular graphics can be described as specialized images which when viewed under certain circumstances will produce 3-D or animated sequences. The technology of this product consists of two main elements-a specially prepared (interlaced) image that contains data from two or more graphics which is placed in precise alignment with a lenticular lens. The lenticular lens isolates, magnifies, and displays the image data from each individual graphic according to the angle of observation.

HOW TO CREATE LENTICULAR FILES

Your images will transition from one to another as you move the card up and down. At the moment, only a vertical transition or flip is available for order.

The bleed must be made bigger for the Lenticular prints. The total bleed should be .25" added to the cut size. For example, if you are ordering a business card the final size you should upload is 3.75 x 2.25. The files should still be CMYK and 300dpi as normal. Be sure to read rules for lenticular below.

Different types of effects can be achieved with lenticular images range from flip, zoom, morphing or animation to 3D and combinations of 3D with the other effects.

FLIP

The flip effect combines two or more very different images. The images change as the angle of observation changes.

ANIMATION

The animation effect is composed of various sequential images that show small differences between one image and the next.

VOLUMETRIC 3D

Lenticular prints with 3D effect allow each eye to see a different image. Due to the ability of stereoscopic vision of human being, the brain is able to integrate both images to create a three-dimensional illusion without the need for special glasses.

RULES TO FOLLOW FOR LENTICULAR CARDS

  • Dark solid colored and/or textured backgrounds work well.
  • White and light colored areas are transparent, other views / flips will show through white areas causing a ghosting effect. White and light colored areas only work well if each view has white/light colors in the exact same area.
  • Use bold san sarif fonts.
  • Avoid small, fine and thin type. Fonts get distorted through the lens / plastic surface, so the bolder the better.
  • Text that varies from view to view / file to file should NOT overlap. It should be in different positions on each view.
  • 4D effect works best when the variation from image to image is subtle and simple.
